Kirkland, WA – Just after 2:30 am this morning, Kirkland Police responded to multiple reports of the sounds of shots fired in the 9900 BLK of NE 132nd PL. Callers also reported hearing what sounded like a vehicle speeding away. Officers arrived in the area and determined several rounds from a handgun had been fired at a single residence. Multiple rounds fired had struck the residence as well as vehicles parked there. The Officers initially received no response from within the residence but eventually determined the home was occupied by a sole male adult who was not injured. The police have had numerous previous contacts at this residence and believe this was not a random act but rather the residence was specifically targeted. Officers were able to collect evidence from the scene.
While Kirkland Police Officers and Detectives were finishing up on scene of this incident, another report of a shooting came out just after 6:00 am this morning. Officers responded to a report of possible shots fired at the Motel 6 located at 12010 120th PL NE. Upon arrival, Officers contacted two males in a room at the motel who were reporting being robbed at gun point. The victims reported two male suspects armed with handguns had broken out a window and forced entry into the room. One of the male tenants of the room was suffering from a head injury and reported he was struck by one of the two suspects. Both suspects fled the room after the assault/robbery. The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening injury to his head. The two suspects were known to the occupants of the room and within minutes of arriving on scene, Kirkland Police Officers located one of the suspects at a nearby gas station. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. Located nearby was a backpack containing the suspect’s ID and a replica firearm. A K-9 track was conducted for the outstanding suspect who was not initially located. As the investigation progressed, Kirkland Police Detectives determined the other suspect was in another room at the Motel 6 and was taken into custody without incident. One of the two suspects confessed to their participation in the earlier drive by shooting and both suspects confessed to their participation in the robbery at the motel. Additionally, a stolen vehicle utilized by the suspects was recovered at the Motel 6.
The suspects will be booked on multiple felony charges based on their individual participation in the crimes. These charges may include Burglary 1st Degree, Assault 2nd Degree, Attempted Robbery, and Possession of a Stolen Vehicle. Investigation into these two incidents continues and the names of the suspects are being withheld pending filing of charges. Both these incidents appear to be targeted at the victims and not a random act further endangering the public. The Kirkland Police Department would like to thank the residents who quickly called in to report these incidents which assisted police in being able to respond quickly to the scenes and make arrests in these cases.
