Case/Incident #2018-13331

Kirkland, WA –
Just after 4:30 this afternoon, Kirkland Police received a call from a male claiming to have a bomb inside the 76 Gas Station located at 11848 NE 85th St. Kirkland Police were quickly on the scene and were able to establish communication with the male by telephone who advised he had a device attached to his person. A female employee was inside with the male and he was not allowing her to leave. An officer was able to convince the male to step outside and give himself up and the male complied.

The male had no device on his person when he stepped outside and he was taken into custody. The female employee also left the store and was unharmed but shaken from the incident.

The subject did make a comment that a bomb was placed at a location in Seattle and the Seattle Police Department was notified of a possible device in the 300 blk. of W. Harrison.

Bellevue Police Bomb Squad responded to the 76 Station to clear the location and make sure no devices were left inside. The male is in his early 20’s and the motive for his threats is unknown at this time.

Traffic in the area was diverted during the incident, but traffic is now back open. The Kirkland Police Department would like to thank the public for their support in staying out of the area while the event was occurring and also both Bellevue and Redmond Police for their assistance.
