NSP-2020-rendering-wide.jpg WHAT: A Kirkland contractor begins construction in early December on a pair of intersection projects that will improve walking safety on Central Way and Lakeshore Plaza Drive.
NPM Construction will establish overhead rapid flashing beacons near Central Way’s intersection with Main Street. And at its intersection with Lakeshore Plaza Drive, the contractor will build a pair of ‘bulbouts’ that reduce the crossing distance from one side of Lakeshore Plaza Drive to the other.

LOCALLY SOURCED: Both of these improvements derive directly from residents, who proposed them and advocated for them through the 2020 Neighborhood Safety Program
The Neighborhood Safety Program allocates up to $50,000 to implement residents’ successful project ideas. Residents can submit their own ideas by visiting https://kirklandwa.qscend.com/ourkirkland/.

WHEN: NPM Construction plans to begin working on the Lakeshore Plaza Drive intersection in late November and to complete it in December. Supply-chain challenges are forcing the contractor to resume work in spring 2022 on the Central Way and Main Street intersection.

HOURS: NPM Construction plans to work 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.

WHAT TO EXPECT: Community members should expect intermittent traffic delays around the work sites.

  • On-going supply-chain challenges, as well as weather, could alter the NPM Construction’s schedule.
