Register for a Recreation Program

Kirkland Parks and Community Services offers hundreds of fun and recreational programming opportunities for community members of all ages. Programs include athletic programs, adult fitness, dance, preschool activities, special interest, youth classes, performing arts, and more! 

General registration for Spring/Summer programs and camps starts on March 22, 2023 at 7:00 AM and aquatics and swim registration starts on March 29, 2023 at 7:00 AM! 

In-person registration is available at City Hall, North Kirkland Community Center, and Peter Kirk Community Center during business hours from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. 

How to Register for a Recreation Program

Online

Step 1.Learn about our Recreation Programs and Services

  • To view the current available in-person and virtual programs and activities, please visit KirklandParks.net. Registration is available online!

Find a class you are interested in

Step 2.Create a registration account

  • To register for a Kirkland Parks and Community Services class, activity or program, you must first create a CivicRec registration account.
  • Visit KirklandParks.net and click on the "Login/Create Account" button to create or access your account today! The primary account holder must be at least 18 years of age or older.

Step 3.Register for a class

  • Once your account is active, use the catalog tabs in the KirklandParks.net registration system.
  • Kirkland Parks and Community Services requires payment for each program at the time of registration. Visa and MasterCard are accepted.

Step 4.Receive a confirmation email

  • You will receive a registration receipt by email to the address on file.
  • A waiver of liability will also be sent by email. Your digital signature is required to participate in Kirkland Parks programs.

  • If registering for a virtual program, please read the class description on when you can expect to receive the class link.

Program COVID Safety Information and Guidelines

Thank you for registering for a Kirkland Parks & Community Services recreation program! Our top priority is the safety of you, your family and our staff. Before your scheduled class or camp, please review the following information and guidelines, which were created in accordance with the CDC, King County, and the Governor’s Office.

General Information

  • Many programs this year will be outdoors. When indoor programs are offered, it will be in a well-ventilated area that also provides enough space to follow social distancing guidelines.

  • Participants with any of the following symptoms may not attend recreation programs: fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscles or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea.

  • All participants and staff are asked to do a self-assessment of their health before leaving the house. Screening questions will be asked each day.

  • Based on CDC guidelines, if a child has had known exposure to COVID-19 or has had symptoms, they may not attend camp until at least 10 days after symptom onset, and at least 24 hours after their fever has resolved and symptoms have improved.

  • Masks will be worn at all times by youth participants and staff, except when eating or drinking. Masks are also required indoors.

  • We ask everyone to wash their hands and sanitize prior to arrival. Time will be scheduled for handwashing throughout the day.

  • All supplies will be sanitized at the start of the day and sharing will be avoided and minimized as much as possible. 

  • Participants and staff must follow social distancing guidelines as much as possible.

  • All participants must bring their own water bottle, snacks, and/or lunch. No sharing of food, utensils, or water bottles. 

Drop off & Pick Up 

  • Heath check questions much be answered at the start of each day.

  • Parents, staff, and participants will be required to wear face coverings during check in and check out.

  • We ask you avoid crowding and maintain social distancing guidelines.

  • If someone other than yourself is picking up, please notify staff.

COVID Plan

  • If a child becomes sick with COVID-19 symptoms while in one of our programs, we will notify the family immediately and ask that the child be picked up as soon as possible.

  • The child will be isolated from the rest of the group, made to feel as comfortable as possible, and will remain with a staff member until they can be picked up.

  • All families in that program will be informed that a participant became sick at camp, and there is the possibility of COVID-19 exposure. If camp is cancelled for this reason, refunds will be given.

  • If, at any time, a participant is unable or unwilling to abide by the guidelines and procedures set forth in this document, the City of Kirkland reserves the right to suspend that child’s registration for the remaining days. In this case, a refund will not be issued for any unattended days.

Recreation Programs and Events Refund Policies

  • Refunds are granted if the request is made at least five (5) business days prior to the start of the class, less a $10.00 administrative fee.  Fee applies to each class withdrawn.  Please Note: Classes paid for by check or cash will be refunded by check and must be in amounts greater than $10.00.

  • Class withdrawals requested less than five (5) business days prior to the start of the class will result in a refund of 50% of the registration fee.  Fee applies to each class withdrawn.

  • 100% Refund issued if class is canceled by the Parks and Community Services department.

  • Refunds will not be issued on or after the first day of class. Transfer requests must be received five (5) business days prior to the start of class (except swim class notification of a new level by the swim instructor).

  • No refunds will be issued for classes that cost less than $10.00.

  • Online registrants please note: Parks and Community Services staff must process transfers.  Online enrollments resulting in withdrawals are subject to the written refund policies listed above. You can print your receipt when prompted to do so at the end of the registration process.

Resident and Non-Resident Fee Structure

Registrants with a Kirkland postal address are considered Residents. Non-Residents who work within the City limits are eligible for the resident rate.

Electronic Waivers

Electronic Waivers are available to sign after you complete the registration process. A link is provided by e-mail that will guide you through signing the waiver.

Snow, Inclement Weather and Air Quality Policy

The safety of program participants is a primary consideration when determining if programs should be canceled due to inclement weather, poor or icy road conditions, poor air quality, or other events which jeopardize participant and employee safety. The City of Kirkland follows the lead of the Lake Washington School District when determining cancellations during the school year. Outside of the school year, City staff will evaluate conditions and make the appropriate decision to cancel or delay programs.

When air quality levels are deemed unhealthy by The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) all outdoor classes and programs will be canceled. The Peter Kirk Pool will be closed, and beaches will not be staffed by lifeguards during periods of poor air quality. Classes and programs will be rescheduled if possible. Refunds will be considered on an individual program basis but not guaranteed.

Title VI

Kirkland’s policy is to fully comply with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act by prohibiting discrimination against any person on the basis of race, color, national origin or sex in the provision of benefits and services resulting from its programs and activities. Any person who believes his/her Title VI protection has been violated, may file a complaint with the City.
