Kirkland Parks and Community Services has made the hard decision to cancel the Kirkland ORCA Swim Team for the 2021 season.

We hope to see you at the pool this summer for open swim and that you will join us for the ORCA Swim Team in 2022.

Registration for next seasons returning swimmers begins in March 2022

The City of Kirkland offers a recreational swim team that participates in the Craze Summer Swim League. Our team focuses on developing fundamental skills. We also want to instill the value of a recreational activity that lasts a lifetime.

Registration opens in March 2022 and closes in May 2022

How can new participants join the team?

Kirkland Parks and Community Services hosts a new participant tryouts in June at the Peter Kirk Pool. After passing the tryouts, all new participants are entered into a lottery divided up by age group and gender. Names will then be drawn, starting with the youngest age group, filling the available spaces on the teams.

Are there any prerequisites?

As of July 1, 2022: 

  • Participants age 6-8 must be able to swim 25 yards of freestyle and 25 yards of backstroke.
  • Participants age 9-15 must be able to swim 50 yards of freestyle, 50 yards of backstroke, and 25 yards of breaststroke.

Is there a meeting to get information about the team once my son/daughter is on the team?

There will be an informational meeting in June 2022 at the Peter Kirk Pool. This meeting will go over all aspects of being a participant of our swim team, important dates, practice schedules, and meet schedules.

Do parents need to volunteer?

YES! Parents will volunteer approximately 6 to 8 hours throughout the season. Parent volunteers are crucial to the success of home swim meets. Parents help assist with timing, ribbons and staging swimmers. Volunteer sign up information will be given to registered parents and participants.

When are practices and meets?

  • *New* - Only morning practice times, this will allow more space on the team!
  • Practices occur Monday through Thursday in the mornings, beginning June 2022 and ending August 2022. Practices consist of both dry land conditioning and in water swimming development.
  • Meets occur on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays throughout the season. The Craze Summer Swim League Invitational is TBD.
  • The two home meets are also TBD.
