Forbes Lake Trail and Park Improvements Project
|

The City has owned park property on the east side of Forbes Lake since 1990, with additional parcels transferred to the City as part of private developments (Lochshire Apts, Pan-Terra Homes). At the present time, the City owns about seven acres on Forbes Lake. In addition, as part of the City’s agreement with the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), about 2.5 additional acres on the southwest side of the lake will be transferred to the City in 10 years.
The WSDOT Forbes Lake Wetland Mitigation effort was completed in November of 2007. In addition to enhancing existing wetlands and wetland buffers on the site, over 2 acres of new wetlands were created. WSDOT will now monitor and maintain the wetland areas for 10 years to ensure that they function effectively.
The primary goal for the Forbes Lake Park and Trail Project is to provide public pedestrian access and viewing/interpretive opportunities to Forbes Lake. Planning began in the spring of 2008. Construction of improvements is scheduled to occur in 2010. |
