Pre-approved Plans and policies are to be referred to by any individual or company designing, constructing or maintaining water, sewer, storm drainage, or street improvements in the City of Kirkland.
On January 3, 2000, the City of Kirkland Department of Public Works published a new set of pre-approved plans. The 2000 edition Pre-approved Plans Book replicated the majority of the March 1993 edition; however, many new pre-approved plans had been added. Also, all of the plans are now in PDF format (Adobe Acrobat) and you can view, print, or download them on this web site.
POLICIES
The City of Kirkland has adopted both the 2009 King County Surface Water Design Manual and the COK Addendum to the 2009 KCSWDM effective January 1, 2010. Adoption of the new stormwater manual required us to update several policies in the Pre-Approved Plans prior top the traditional update that typically occurs in March.
Future UpdatesThe Public Works Department updates the Pre-approved Plans annually. Our most recent update occurred in February 2011. Click for our 2011 list of updates. If you are designing or constructing a project, you have three options:

Storm Drainage Design Standards - Additional Information
On December 7, 1999, the Kirkland City Council approved Ordinance No. 3711 relating to storm and surface water management and water quality. Specifically, the ordinance adopted the 1998 King County Surface Water Design Manual as part of the Public Works Pre-approved Plans. Due to size of the design manual, it will not be published as part of the Pre-approved Plans. If you need to purchase a copy of the manual, please contact King County Surface Water Management at 206-296-1900. For more information regarding the use of the King County Surface Water Design Manual in the City of Kirkland, please refer to Pre-approved Plan Policy D-2., Surface Water Design Requirements.
