WHAT: A City of Kirkland contractor begins construction in early December 2019 on 950 feet of sidewalk near Finn Hill Middle School. Trinity Construction will build the sidewalk along the north side of Northeast 132nd Street, between 84th and 87th avenues northeast. The project includes curb ramps and planter strips. A $500,000-grant from the State of Washington will cover most of the project’s expenses. The new five-foot-wide sidewalk will improve access to Finn Hill Middle School, Thoreau and Sandburg elementary schools and Big Finn Hill Park.
WHEN: Kirkland’s project engineers expect Trinity Construction to begin work in early December and to complete the sidewalk by March, depending on weather. The contractor will work eight hours a day, between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
WHAT TO EXPECT: To build the sidewalk, crews will close the north side of Northeast 132nd Street. They will direct pedestrians to use the south side. Flaggers will maintain the flow of two-way vehicular traffic, and they will ensure local access for residents, mail delivery, garbage pick-up and emergency vehicles. There will be brief restrictions to driveway access, and residents can communicate directly with construction crews on-site.
TRANSIT NOTICE: Construction will block access to the bus stop serving King County Metro routes 234 and 244 at the northeast corner of Northeast 132nd Street and 84th Avenue Northeast. Metro will install a temporary bus stop nearby or will skip that stop.
