(June 13, 2017) --
Construction begins June 26 on a five-block section of sidewalk along the Mark Twain Elementary School walk route. Kamins Construction, Kirkland's contractor, will build sidewalk from Northeast 85th Street to Northeast 90th Street. Next summer, the City plans to build another five blocks of sidewalk along 126th Avenue Northeast, from Northeast 90th Street to Northeast 95th Street.
When complete, the School Walk Route Enhancements project will provide a continuous sidewalk along 126th Avenue Northeast, from Northeast 85th Street to Northeast 95th Street and along Northeast 90th Street, from 124th Avenue Northeast to 126th Avenue Northeast.
Kamins Construction will work 10 consecutive hours between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday. The mailed brochure incorrectly stated Kamins Construction's planned work hours.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Kamins Construction will remove and replace eight trees in the City’s right-of-way. Some street parking will be eliminated during construction. However, no parking signs will be placed 24 hours before the work begins. The City of Kirkland requires the contractor to backfill and/or cover trenches and other unfinished work at the end of each day. Access for local residents, mail delivery, garbage pick-up and emergency vehicles will be maintained.
