Project Update December, 2011: The City hired the firm of TCA Architecture Planning Inc. to conduct a search for possible sites for the construction of a new fire station to serve Finn Hill. The TCA study will continue the process begun by King County Fire Protection District #41 to find a suitable location. The study will include public information meetings and will provide opportunities for the community to provide input, ask questions, and receive regular updates.

Project Overview: Prior to annexation, King County Fire Protection District #41 (FD #41) contracted with the City of Kirkland Fire Department to provide fire and emergency medical services from Fire Station 24, Fire Station 25, and Fire Station 27. FD #41 had a long standing goal to build a new station single station.
Why a new station?: A new strategically-located fire station is needed to provide timely fire and emergency medical response to the greatest number of residents and structures possible. The Holmes Point Fire Station (#24), located on NE 141st Street, is only staffed at night by reserve personnel for limited emergency medical responses. Relocation of the Holmes Point Fire Station (#25) is the most cost effective way to improve response times.
How is the new station funded?: The Finn Hill Fire Station Project is being funded from FD #41 cash reserves, the anticipated proceeds from the eventual sale of the two decommissioned stations, and limited general obligation debt that FD #41 issued prior to the annexation. The secured funding will allow for the payment of principal and interest on the outstanding debt for the new station.
When will the study be done?: The City together with its consultant, TCA Architecture Planning Inc., will begin the site selection and analysis in early 2011 with the goal of having a preferred site chosen by early April 2011.
