Project Overview: This project will extend NE 120th Street between Slater Avenue NE and 124th Avenue NE in the Totem Lake/North Rose Hill neighborhood. This new roadway will be 44-foot (curb to curb) with five-foot planter strip and five-foot sidewalk. A new traffic signal will be installed at 124th Avenue NE/NE 120th Street, and signal modifications will be made at Slater Avenue NE/NE 120th Street.
This new roadway will vastly improve traffic circulation in the Totem Lake area and improve exposure to adjacent businesses. Pedestrian and bicycle facilities to be constructed with the project will encourage non-SOV (single occupancy vehicle) mobility. This project will continue pedestrian and bicycle facilities planned for Slater Avenue NE and along 132nd Avenue NE/NE 120th Street east of the project. Emergency access to surrounding areas will be improved.
Project Timeline: The initial environmental review warrants further soil investigation. The start of the construction phase is anticipated to begin in 2013 with a nine month duration.
What to expect: Construction anticipated to last 9 months. Access to driveways and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout construction. Road closures will be minimal, if any, and detours are not anticipated unless very short closures for utility work warrant them. Traffic using 124th Avenue and Slater Avenue may experience reduced lanes and occasional delays due to construction activity.
