Lakeview School Walk Route Enhancement
|

|
• Improve Safe School Walk Route |
| • Provide Continuous Sidewalk Facilities |
| • Enhance the Pedestrian Experience |
December 5, 2012: The City of Kirkland’s contractor will be installing the flashing crosswalk beacons at 104th Avenue NE and NE 68th Street. Construction is expected to start Friday, December 7 and continue on Monday, December 10. Many factors (including weather) could influence the timeline. Typical hours of operation are 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. However, like the construction earlier this Fall, the contractor will shut down any equipment and open up all traffic lanes during school drop off and pick up times. They will be on site to help assist pedestrians as needed.
November 6, 2012: The arrival of the flashing crosswalk beacons has been delayed. Check back for further updates on the status of the flashing beacon. Thank you for your patience.
October 1, 2012 Update: The Sidewalks have all been installed and the project is awaiting delivery of the flashing crosswalk beacons (to be located at NE 68th Street and 104th Avenue NE). Installation of the flashing crosswalk beacons is anticipated in November. Thank you for your patience during the construction of the sidewalks.
Project Overview: Install approximately 355 lineal feet of curb, gutter, sidewalk and planter strip along the north side of NE 67th Street and west side of 104th Avenue NE. Upgrade ADA ramps at NE 67th Street/103rd Ave NE, NE 68th Street/104th Ave NE and mid-block crosswalk on NE 68th Street at Lakeview Elementary. Install RRFB (rapid rectangular flashing beacon) pedestrian activated lighted crosswalk at mid-block crosswalk. The project will complete critical non-motorized facilities to safely get students to and from Lakeview Elementary School.
What to Expect: Expect restricted parking along the roadway. No-parking signs will be posted 24 hours in advance of all parking restrictions. During construction, there may be inconvenience associated with driving through the work zone; traffic control and flagging operations will be in effect. Emergency vehicle access will be maintained throughout the construction process. The contractor is required to back fill and/or cover their work at the end of each day so there will be no open trenches left over night.
When: Construction is planned for the month of September 2012. |
