December 21, 2012 Update: Thanks to the 2012 Streets Levy, the City will be expanding the Crosswalk Upgrade Program to restripe crosswalks and upgrade or add crosswalks with new highly visible and energy efficient warning lights. The list of crosswalks to be restriped or upgraded will be posted to this web page early in 2013. To suggest improvements to a specific crosswalk go to: Suggest a Project.
Project Overview:
The Crosswalk Upgrade Program is a City-wide program for maintaining and improving crosswalks throughout the City. Recent Program improvements include installing specialty signage and pedestrian crosswalk lights known as Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) at select locations.
RRFBs are user-activated flashing amber lights that supplement pedestrian warning signs at un-signalized intersections and mid-block crosswalks. The devices enhance safety by increasing driver awareness of the presence of pedestrians wishing to cross the street. Other work elements associated with the installation of the RRFBs includes: replacement of existing non-conforming wheelchair ramps with new ADA (Americans with Disabilities) wheel chair ramps and new pavement crosswalk markings.

- Kirkland Junior High School at Market Street at 18 Avenue
- Rose Hill Junior High School at 132 Avenue NE at NE 74 Street
- Benjamin Franklin Elementary School at NE 60 Street
When:
