September 6, 2011 Update: The sidewalk along 12th Avenue is expected to be complete by the end of September (delayed three weeks from the last update in early August). In order to complete the work on the east end of the street, 12th Avenue at 110th Ave NE is scheduled to be closed again to vehicles and pedestrians Wednesday, September 7 thru Friday September 9 from 9am to 2:30pm. We apologize for the extended timeline and appreciate your patience as we complete this important neighborhood improvement. August 3, 2011 Update: The City is pleased to announce the sidewalk is expected to be substantially complete by the first week in September. In order to complete the work on the east end of the street, 12th Avenue at 110th Avenue NE is scheduled to be closed to vehicles and pedestrians August 8 to August 30 daily from 7am to 6pm. Closure will provide a safe work environment and allow installation of improvements in the roadway. Access for mail delivery, garbage pickup and emergency vehicles will be maintained.
Project Overview: This project will construct approximately 780 linear feet of curb, gutter and sidewalk with a planter strip along the north side of 12th Avenue from 6th Street to the back entrance of Peter Kirk Elementary School located on 110th Avenue NE. The sidewalk will capitalize on areas where sidewalk has already been constructed with prior development. The sidewalk will be 5 feet wide and will be separated from the edge of the travel lane by a 4.5 foot planter strip and 0.5 foot wide concrete curb (totaling 5 feet) in most places. Some storm drain improvements will be required to control storm water. The corner of 12th Avenue and 100th Avenue NE will be modified slightly to meet City standards and increase safety for those traveling around the corner.
What to Expect: During construction, there may be inconvenience associated with driving through the work zone; traffic control and flagging operations will be in effect. Expect restricted parking along the roadway. No-parking signs will be posted 24 hours in advance of all parking restrictions. Emergency vehicle access will be maintained throughout the construction process. The contractor is required to back fill and/or cover their work at the end of each day so there will be no open trenches left over night.
Timeline: Construction is scheduled to begin in late June 2011 and be complete before school starts in the fall of 2011. | |
