Project Update January 2012: Work is substantially complete.
Project Update December 12, 2011: Expect traffic delays as contractor installs in-pavement loop detectors December 12-14. Work will be done from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm, avoiding rush hour. Expect traffic delays on NE 85th Street during the day, and plan to take an alternative route if possible. Thank you for your patience.
Project Update December 7, 2011:In order to complete construction for the new traffic signal at 114th Avenue NE and NE 85th Street, the contractor is scheduled to remove old signal equipment and switch over to the new signal on Thursday, December 8 (7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.). A uniformed police officer and traffic flaggers will direct traffic for all approaches to the intersection (including the high traffic volumes on NE 85th Street). Commuters should expect significant traffic delays, use alternate routes and plan ahead. This work is weather-dependent and may be rescheduled as needed. Thank you for your patience while we complete this project as efficiently as possible.
Project Overview: The 114th Avenue NE and NE 85th Street Intersection Improvements project builds a second southbound-to-eastbound left turn lane at the intersection, improves traffic signal controller equipment and adds Intelligent Transportation System elements: closed circut TV, video detection, signal timing and coordination, and pathway for connection to the future Traffic Center.
These improvements will reduce congestion and allow the intersection to maintain the City's desired level of service. Sidewalk and curb enhancements at all four corners of the intersection will improve pedestrian safety
Project Timeline: The Project began construction in early September and is anticipated to be complete mid December 2011. Work hours are scheduled between 7:00am and 6:00 pm. Traffic control operations have been extended to 8:30am to 4:30pm.
What to expect: During construction, there may be inconvenience associated with driving through the work zone; traffic control and flagging operations will be in effect. Emergency vehicle access will be maintained throughout the construction process. The contractor is required to back fill and/or cover their work at the end of each day so there will be no open trenches left over night.
