KIRKLAND, Wash. – The Kirkland Police Department is joining 33 cities across the state as they add one more Chief of Police to their rosters. Kirkland’s newest “Little Chief,” eight-year-old Tiffany Larson, attends Peter Kirk Elementary School and will be sworn in as Chief for a Day at 11:00 a.m. August 18, 2016, at the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission (WSCJTC), 19010 1st Ave. S, in Burien
. Tiffany will be honored as part of a state-wide program that celebrates the lives of children who have been diagnosed with a serious illness.
“We’re impressed with Tiffany’s courage and fighting spirit as she faced a year and a half of treatment for a cancerous Medulla blastoma brain tumor,” said Kirkland Police Chief Cherie Harris. “We are proud and honored to be able to give Tiffany a way to focus on her dreams, not her illness.”
Tiffany and her fellow honorees will be transported by police motorcade in hand-tailored uniforms to the August 18 swearing in ceremony and will get to experience a variety of presentations by local law enforcement agencies including K-9 units, mounted patrol, Special Weapons and Tactics teams, police helicopter units, and more. This free event is open to the public.
The WSCJTC ceremony is just part of the celebration for Tiffany. On March 16, when she finished the final round of chemotherapy for her condition, Tiffany was given a police escort home where her family, friends, and members of the police department gathered to throw her a welcome home party. On June 23, she was again honored at a benefit picnic sponsored by the Kirkland Police Department at the Kirkland Justice Center. Video of the event can be found on the Kirkland TV site
