City of Kirkland Recognized for Recycling Efforts

King County honors 12 additional Kirkland Organizations

KIRKLAND, Wash. – For the fifth consecutive year, the City of Kirkland is listed among King County’s 112 “Best Workplaces for Waste Prevention and Recycling for 2016.”

Now in its 10th year, this award commends organizations that are dedicated to reducing waste. Eligible business sectors include education, engineering and manufacturing, financial, food and hospitality, government and utilities, medical, professional services, real estate and property management, retail, technology, and transportation.

The City of Kirkland’s recycling efforts include offering Styrofest, a monthly plastic foam recycling collection event for Kirkland residents and businesses; providing drop-off points for hazardous recyclables such as CFLs, batteries, and cell phones; and coordinating a paper towel composting program for City Hall restrooms. The City also was awarded an honor roll distinction for being on the list for five consecutive years.

The City was among 12 other Kirkland businesses who were recognized by King County for their efforts in waste reduction and recycling. Other local businesses include:
