Fire Safety Inspections

The Kirkland Fire Marshal and Kirkland Fire Department operational crews routinely conduct Fire and Life Safety Inspections of communitybusinesses. Businesses are required to maintain their occupancies in accordance with the International Fire Code (IFC) as adopted by the City of Kirkland. Failure to maintain compliance with these codes can result in fines, liability and even the revocation of a business license. Maintaining these basic standards may also be a requirement of a business’s insurer.

Business owners do not need to wait for fire crews or inspectors to visit to be prepared – Below we have provided basic checklists of the most common violations found in various occupancies. These lists are not a total reflection of all IFC standards – but they are the most common and often the most significant findings.

For Private Home Owners we have also included a Home Fire Safety Self-Inspection Checklist of non-mandatory safety and security tips. The Fire Marshal and Kirkland Fire Department do not inspect private homes.
