The following terms are used to identify where in the process a permit is. Most permits follow the following sequence of events:

The status of a permit or license when the application is filed and prior to approval. |
| Approved |
The status of a permit when the application has been filed and before the applicant pays for and picks up the permit. |
| Issued |
The status of a permit or license when issued. |
| Finaled |
Signifies closure of a permit. The applicant/owner has completed the project in accordance with the approved plans and the associated conditions of approval. |
| Renewal |
Used only for Business licenses and identifies those licenses which are pending customer payment for renewal. |
| Closed |
Business closed or moved. |
| Expired |
The status of a permit when a specific time period has passed. |
| Withdrawn |
The status of a permit application when the applicant withdraws the application. |
| Denied |
The status of a permit application if it is determined that the application does not comply with the rules and regulations that it is subject to. |
| Cancelled |
Synonymous with Withdrawn. |
