The City of Kirkland is seeking adult volunteer applicants to apply for seats with terms ending on March 31, 2021 on the Planning Commission. One of these positions is currently filled by an incumbent who does intend to apply for reappointment. Council may also select an alternate appointee in case any additional vacancies were to occur within the immediate six months following the selection and appointment process. The appointments are made by the City Council. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and reside within the city limits of Kirkland.
The Planning Commission meets regularly at 7:00 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. The Commission advises the City Council on matters relating to the Kirkland Comprehensive Plan and land use regulations. It occasionally conducts hearings on certain development proposals and advises the Council on whether those proposals are consistent with the city policies. Planning Commissioners may also need to attend additional evening meetings or community workshops and events as needed and be willing to commit the time to participate on task forces and citizen advisory committees.
