Library Board Youth Vacancy

The City of Kirkland is seeking applicants to fill one youth-specific seat on the Library Board.  The appointment is for a two-year term ending March 31, 2019 and will be made by the City Council.  This position is currently filled by and incumbent who does intend to apply for reappointment. Council may also select an alternate appointee in case any additional vacancies were to occur within the immediate six months following the selection and appointment process.

Applicants must have attained the grade level of Sophomore or Junior by September of the year of appointment, be under the age of eighteen, and reside within the Kirkland city limits. 

The Kirkland Library Board was established in 1951.  The purpose of the board is to serve as an advisory body to the Kirkland City Council and the Kirkland City Manager, and shall also serve as liaison to the King County rural library district and its designated librarian regarding library service issues and community interest.  The Library Board meets the second Wednesday of every other month at 6:00 p.m.

The City Council adopted a Code of Conduct which all Board and Commission members are asked to sign. 

Library Board youth applications must be submitted to the City Clerk, Kirkland City Hall, 123 5th Avenue, Kirkland WA  98033, or kanderson@kirklandwa.gov prior to 4:00 p.m., Thursday, February 16, 2017.

Interviews are scheduled for the evening of Friday, March 17, 2017 beginning at 5:00 p.m. at Kirkland City Hall. If you are selected for an interview, you must be available on this evening; interview times to be determined.
