Tourism Development Committee
The City of Kirkland is seeking a representative for one vacancy on the Tourism Development Committee. Organizations involved in activities authorized to be funded by lodging tax revenue are invited to propose representatives for appointment to the Committee. The Tourism Development Committee is appointed by the Kirkland City Council for the purpose of advising the Council on allocating the lodging excise tax fund for tourism promotion and is comprised of seven voting members. State statute establishes the specific makeup of the committee, which consists of one member of the Kirkland City Council (who serves as chair), three representatives from organizations representing businesses required to collect the lodging tax, and three representatives of organizations involved in activities authorized to be funded by lodging tax revenue or local agencies involved in tourism promotion. Membership terms of the advisory committee are reviewed annually by the City Council. The Committee generally meets monthly or as needed.
Beginning in 2002, a one percent excise tax has been collected on charges for lodging and motel room fees and goes into the lodging tax fund for the purposes of tourism promotion, acquisition or operation of tourism related facilities. Applications may be obtained at the information counter at City Hall, 123 Fifth Avenue, by calling the City Clerk’s Office at (425) 587-3190, or on the City’s website at www.kirklandwa.gov.
In 2011 the City Council adopted a
Code of Conduct which all Board and Commission members are asked to sign.
Tourism Development Committee Application must be submitted to the City Clerk. The position is open until filled.
